In the latter half of last year, Niantic finally introduced the third generation of Pokémon in Pokémon GO. As a result, the bug type Pokémon Wurmple could finally evolve into Silcoon or Cascoon, who would in turn evolve into Beautifly or Dustox respectively.
In this guide, we’re going to try and help you evolve Wurmple into the evolution of your choice, Silcoon or Cascoon. It’s not an exact science but we’ve got some tips that might help you.
How to evolve Wurmple into Silcoon or Cascoon
The problem with Wurmple is that it’s not really clear how to force the evolution. Eevee can also evolve into a variety of different Pokémon, but you can game the evolution in Pokémon GO various different ways. We’re not saying that you can’t do the same with Wurmple, it’s just not immediately clear how.
It doesn’t help that the community is currently split on how it works. Many claim that it’s just down to random chance, while others swear that the time of day or its stats affect it.

Either way, it’s going to be a matter of time before we know for sure how it all works. We’ll update this guide when a definitive answer has been found.
How did Wurmple evolve in Ruby and Sapphire?
Another problem is that Pokémon GO doesn’t have a personality system, which was the defining factor in choosing your favourite evolution in Ruby and Sapphire.
Sure, you couldn’t do anything about it – it was random, just like it appears to be in Pokémon Go, but at least you had some kind of indication before it went and evolved on you.
So there’s nothing I can do to get the evolution I want?
Players the world over are still trying to figure out just what the heck is going on with Pokémon GO’s iteration of Wurmple. Given the lack of evidence otherwise, we’re inclined to believe that it’s entirely up to chance which type you end up with.
