MEGHAN Markle became so addicted to fame that when she finally hit the big time as an actress on Suits, she divorced her first husband and sent him the wedding ring back in the post, according to a bombshell report.
The devastating claim, made in Weekend Magazine by her old friends and members of her ex-husband’s family, could spark alarm bells as she prepares to marry her British fiancee Prince Harry at Windsor Castle on May 19.
Her former best pal since childhood, Ninaki Priddy, said when Meghan gained stardom as an actress on TV show ‘Suits’ it completely changed her and she drifted away from first husband Trevor Engelson, 41.
Ms Priddy told Weekend magazine: “There is Meghan before fame and Meghan after fame.”
Meanwhile Mr Engelson’s uncle, Mickey Miles Felton, 73, said the family knows the reason behind her decision to divorce Mr Engelson, but they do not want to disclose it.
It claims her ambition began when she was growing up around Hollywood studios as a child and developed “a burning desire for fame that is such an integral part of Meghan Markle’s persona that it almost seems to be etched in her DNA.”
The young mixed-race girl, with cute, curly pigtails would accompany her dad on sets of hit US TV shows ‘Married with Children’ and ‘General Hospital’ where he was a lighting director.
She was said to be besotted with him, constantly kissing and hugging him.
However, when she reached the dizzying height of fame, getting paid a reported £250,000 per season to star in the TV drama, Suits, she sent her wedding ring back to him in the post after just 23 months of marriage in 2013, the report claims.
When the royal bride-to-be met Mr Engelson, the then 28-year-old was already a film producer and agent while she was a 23-year-old actress fresh out of theatre school.
They quickly moved in together in Los Angeles and she started getting more parts and auditions. She appeared on Deal Or No Deal as a suitcase girl and went on loads of casting calls.
The loved-up pair, who Mr Engelson’s former teacher Carolee Kim described as “such a lovely couple,” dated for six years before getting married in a small ceremony at a Jamaican beach resort in front of 100 guests on September 10, 2011.
He was not only her lover but also her mentor, say people close to them. And Meghan once reportedly declared she couldn’t imagine life without him.
The spurned American has even tried to shop a pilot TV series about an American couple who become locked in a bitter battle after the wife runs off with a British prince.
But he claims it’s not about Meghan.
And while the royal-to-be has removed all trace of him and their life in California from her social media sites, he still has his Facebook page wide open for public view.
The divorce document cites the commonly used reason of “irreconcilable differences” for their split.
Her close friend Ms Priddy, who stopped talking to her because she was disgusted about the cold way she dumped Mr Engelson, told Weekend: “This was the man she wanted to have children with!”
