POKEMON Go Ex Raid Battles are about to begin in earnest, just make sure your local Gym hasn’t disappeared first.
Pokemon Go Ex Raid Battles are about to begin in earnest, as fans battle for the chance to capture Mewtwo.
Ex Raid Battles are exclusive Raids available only to players with an invite. Invites are sent out in advance, and players only have a limited time to defeat can capture Mewtwo.
But even an invite isn’t enough to guarantee you a chance to capture Mewtwo, as some fans in Wisconsin recently found out.
On the day an Ex Raid Battle was due to begin in the area, Niantic suddenly removed the Gym from the game and took away the invites.
A Niantic representative would later confirm that the location was removed in accordance to its policies.
“I checked in with my team and they did a second review of the location,” NianticGeorge told Reddit users.
“I can confirm that the location was correctly removed in accordance to our policies.
“When a location is removed from the game ahead of an EX Raid, the EX Raid Pass will automatically be removed from your inventory.
“We’re still field-testing EX Raids and making improvements. We’re currently working to address this case in a better way.”
Niantic promises that should a similar issue crop up in the future, fans can expect “a more elegant experience”.
It will be worrying for any fans who received EX Raid invites as part of Niantic’s expansion.
Trainers from the UK, Spain, Brazil, Sweden, Netherlands, France, Poland, South Africa and India have been sent Ex Raid Battle invites.
The UK Raids will take place in the likes of Guildford, Taunton and Lichfield.
Interestingly, the latest batch of Ex Raids won’t just take place in sponsored locations like Starbucks.
Just make sure you check that the Gym is still around before you head out to battle.
