Pokemon Go: Niantic gives fans new reason to play that DOESN’T involve catching Pokemon

POKEMON Go fans have a new reason to play the Niantic app, and it doesn’t involve catching Pokemon.

Pokemon Go fans have just been given a new reason to play the Niantic app – and it doesn’t involve catching Pokemon.

Niantic has launched an AR photography competition for Pokemon Go fans.

The competition, which runs until October 25, tasks players with snapping the best AR images and posting them on Instagram.

“We’re challenging you to snap epic Pokemon Go AR photos and post them on Instagram using the hashtag #PokemonGOcontest,” reads a Niantic blog post.

“If your AR photo is selected as one of the top 10 submissions, you’ll win a Pokemon Go Prize Pack containing a Pokemon Go Plus, a poster autographed by the Pokemon Go team, and wireless Bluetooth earbuds.

“You only have until October 25 to submit your best AR photo, so go on an adventure, take a photo, and share it with us on Instagram!”

It should keep fans busy until the release of Gen 3 Pokemon, the best of which can be found in the gallery below…

Fans have already discovered Gen 3 Pokemon in the game files, while a new update suggests that everything is in place for an imminent release.

In fact, the only thing missing are the sound files needed to replicate the new Pokemon.

And Niantic CEO John Hanke has dropped a big hint about the Gen 3 release date, revealing that new Pokemon would be the next big update.

“There is a lot of Pokemon that have not yet been launched,” Hanke said.

“So I think the next secret weapon will be launch of the next Pokemon generation. I hope the players will soon see them.”

A recent Pokemon Company statement suggested that spooky new gen 3 Pokemon would join the app at Halloween.

“The Halloween season is a special time in Pokemon Go,” the post reads.

“Plenty of good stuff is coming to the game later this October, and we can’t wait to get out and about to see what sort of excitement we can scare up while catching new Pokemon to fill out our Pokedex.”

Gen 3 Ghost Types include Shuppet, Banette, Mega Banette, Duskull and Dusclops, which is a nice selection for a limited time Halloween event.
