Meghan Markle might have clashed with Kate Middleton and Prince William, but her relationship with Queen Elizabeth is going strong.
Since she joined the Royal Family in May 2018, there have been rumours of a feud between Meghan Markle and her in-laws, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry and Meghan have opted not to live at Kensington Palace alongside William and Kate, leading royal fans to speculate that there may be tension among the four young royals.
There have also been reports that Meghan reduced Kate to tears at a bridesmaid dress fitting for Princess Charlotte, and that Prince Harry fell out with William over his treatment of Meghan.
Meghan might have struggled to establish a positive relationship with Prince Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, but she had no such struggle in winning over the Queen.
Harry’s grandmother is said to be delighted with the new Duchess of Sussex, with the two women even rumoured to spend time together on a one-on-one basis.
It’s thought that they initially bonded over their mutual love of dogs, with the Queen thrilled that her corgis took to Meghan so quickly.
As Prince Harry told the BBC, “I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing.”
The Queen has handed over a number of her royal patronages to the Duchess of Sussex, demonstrating a huge amount of trust in her new granddaughter-in-law.
She also invited Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, to spend Christmas 2018 at Sandringham with the Royal Family.
It’s extremely rare for a non-royal to join the festivities, with a source telling the Sunday Express that the invitation was “a mark of the Queen’s respect for Meghan”.
What’s the secret to their relationship? Royal commentators believe that the Queen admires Meghan’s strength and motivation, and how she has been independently successful in carving out her own path.
The two royal women share many of the same qualities, and it’s believed that they’ve forged a strong friendship because of it.
Meghan also has a good relationship with her father-in-law, Prince Charles.
After Meghan’s dad Thomas Markle was unable to attend the Royal Wedding last year, Meghan asked Charles if he would walk her down the aisle.
The 70-year-old heir to the throne was touched by the gesture, and keeps a photograph of himself with bride Meghan on display at his Clarence House home.
