Like all royal couples, Princess Diana and her husband-to-be Prince Charles gave an interview to celebrate their engagement.
The royal family and the rest of the world were overjoyed that the prince was finally settling down after enjoying the bachelor life into his 30s.
Like all royal couples, Charles and Diana posed for official engagement photos and did an interview to celebrate the happy news.
During the chat the interviewer asked “Are you in love?”.
Diana replied: “Of course”, but Prince Charles’s answer was very different and it left his future bride “traumatised”.
He simply replied: “Whatever love means”.
In a documentary based around a number of interview tapes Diana recorded before she died, she revealed how she felt about the unusual answer.
She said: “That threw me completely, I thought ‘what a strange answer’.
“It absolutely traumatised me.”
The controversial documentary, Diana: In Her Own Words, featured interviews with the princess from the early 1990s.
She said: “He chatted me up – like a bad rash, he was all over me.”
“He leapt upon me and started kissing me and everything – this is not what people do.
“And he was all over me for the rest of the evening, followed me around [like a] puppy.”
