She still isn’t popular with everyone since she is largely seen as the reason for Prince Charles’ divorce from Princess Diana in 1996. However, even with Camilla Parker-Bowles not necessarily being seen as popular with the public, it seems likely that she will still be given a prestigious title whenever her husband takes over the throne from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Though it has previously been reported that Camilla would be given the title of “Princess Consort” when Charles ascends the throne, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express UK that everyone should still expect her to become Queen Consort, since Prince Charles is the one who has the final say in the matter. In addition, he will likely want to give her the title, according to tradition before him.
“When Charles becomes King he is widely expected to make Camilla Queen Consort, as every king has always had one,” Fitzwilliams said. “This is not popular in the polls but is now thought pretty certain to happen, although the official line was and still is that she will become Princess Consort.
It was previously reported that despite Charles wanting to give his wife a Queen title, he could be blocked constitutionally. Royal biographer Christopher Wilson previously claimed that the “legitimacy” of the couple’s marriage could be called into question, presenting them with a problem when it comes to her title.
For now, she remains solely as the Duchess of Cornwall, as Queen Elizabeth is still the head of the royal family.
